Serge Jaumain

His research focuses mainly on the evolution of mass retailing in Europe since the 19th century, the tourism history and the history of Francophone immigration in North America. He has written or edited some thirty books including three dictionaries: a dictionary of Belgian businesspeople, a dictionary of the history of Brussels and a dictionary of the history of the municipalities in the Brussels region. He also produced the first trilingual (French/Dutch/English) MOOC on the Brussels-Capital Region entitled "Brussels Decoded"  

Former Vice-Rector for international relations at ULB (2006-2016) Serge Jaumain is today Advisor of his Rector for Development Cooperation, President of the NGO ULB-Cooperation, co-director of the Brussels Institute for Advanced Studies (BrIAS) and President of the International Scientific Council of the AUF (Agence universitaire de la francophonie)

Former President of the International Council for Canadian Studies and of the International Association for Quebec Studies, he was for ten year (2011-2020) the first president of BSI (the Brussels Studies Institute). He is today a member of the scientific committee of the Institut des Amériques (Paris) and of eight international journals related to Canada and the Americas. He has received various distinctions, including the Governor General's International Award of Canada and the Insigne du mérite de la Faculté des Arts de l'Université de Montréal.
