Patrick Deboosere teaches demography at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and is emeritus at the Université Libre de Bruxelles.

Patrick Deboosere is scientific director of BRISPO, the research center for population studies at the VUB. He taught at the Ecole de Santé Publique of the ULB and the sociology department of the VUB. His research focuses mainly on the relationship between demography and health and on social inequality in health and mortality. He has also published on household evolution, migration and urban demography. Patrick Deboosere is an editor member of several international scientific journals in demography and human geography. He is chairman of the Supreme Council for Statistics and regularly advises and cooperates with various government institutions, including the Superior Health Council and the Federal Planning Bureau. He is an internationally recognized expert in the field of making administrative data available for scientific research and the harmonization of international statistics and in that capacity he was a member of working groups at, among others, the EU and the OECD.
