Francesc Baró is an (urban) environmental scientist appointed as Asst. Professor at VUB and member of Cosmopolis and BRISPO research groups. He is currently leading the Cosmopolis research lab on urban social-ecological systems.

His research is motivated to understand the role of urban nature towards more just, (climate) resilient, healthy and sustainable cities, combining geospatial and advanced quantitative and qualitative data analyses, including participatory methods. He has participated in several EU-funded ground-breaking research projects with multiple leading roles and responsibilities. Since 2022, he is the co-coordinator of the EU project “Coolschools”, to examine the role of climate nature-based solutions in school environments. He has published more than 60 scientific articles in leading peer-reviewed journals in the fields of urban ecology, ecosystem services, environmental science, landscape and urban planning, urban geography and others.
