Ahmed Z. Khan is Professor and Chair Sustainable Architecture and Urbanism at the BATir department of ULB, Brussels, Belgium. He is academic co-coordinator of the international BRUFACE Masters program in Architectural engineering, and advanced Masters in Sustainable Urban design and Regional planning / Transition Urbanism, founder and scientific chair of DS2BE (Doctoral Seminar for Sustainability Research in the Built Environment), and director of SAUL (Sustainable Arch & Urb Lab). He teaches Bioclimatic Design, Sustainable Design Studio, Urban Sustainability & Circular Economy, Theory of Architecture and Urbanism, including a seminar on Cities of the Future.

Dr. Khan’s research activities focus on issues of Sustainability, Climate Change and Spatial Quality at different scales of the built environment with particular interest in exploring Sustainable Urban Futures. Besides coordinating several European and regionally funded research projects, he has made contributions on advancing research topics ranging from urban metabolism and circular economy, urban ecosystem services, cities of the future, urban form and energy, public space, research by design, and sustainable urban regeneration. Prof. Khan is a fellow of several learned societies, editorial board member and reviewer for many journals and research funding agencies. Besides having practiced for about a decade, he has lectured extensively on issues of sustainable urban development at several forums (in North America, Europe and South Asia), and regularly advises city and state governments on sustainable architecture and urban development in Africa, Europe and South Asia.
