Eva Swyngedouw is Professor of Sociology at BRISPO. As an urban ethnographer, her work examines how social and institutional processes shape experiences of belonging, inequality and access to housing in contemporary cities.

She recently received an ERC Starting Grant for her EXPULSE project. This project investigates how urban expulsion regimes in Brussels, Amsterdam, Barcelona, and Thessaloniki shape residents’ housing trajectories and access to urban citizenship.

Eva holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Chicago. Before joining BRISPO, she was a senior researcher at Cosmopolis and taught Urban Sociology and Qualitative Research Methods at Université Libre de Bruxelles and KU Leuven.
